The short answer
Pick reorder rules first, and pay for statistical forecasting only when demand really varies. Most manufacturers and distributors need reorder rules before statistical forecasting. Three of the eight alternatives, Fishbowl, Unleashed and Cin7 Core, put forecasting behind a higher plan or a paid add-on.

How to choose
- 1
Does the plan you can afford include the planning feature?
Open the live price page and find the feature on a named tier. Pass: it sits on the tier you will pay for. Fail: it needs an add-on or a quote you have not seen. - 2
Does a confirmed order reduce available stock?
Raise an order for 10 units of an item holding 50. Pass: the planning screen shows 40 available. Fail: it still shows 50 until shipment. - 3
Does the tool use your real supplier lead times?
Measure days from purchase order to receipt for your last 10 orders per supplier, using your goods receipt notes. Pass: you can set that lead time per item and reproduce the suggested order date by hand. Fail: the tool allows only one lead time for all suppliers, or its suggested date differs from your hand calculation by more than a day. - 4
Does it respect minimum order quantities?
Give an item a minimum order quantity (MOQ) of 500 and a shortfall of 120. Pass: the suggested order is 500. See our reorder point formula for the related stock-level maths. - 5
Is your stock record accurate enough to plan on?
Count 20 items and compare with the system, following cycle counting. Our rule of thumb: 19 of 20 should match before you switch on automatic ordering. - 6
What does a full year cost for your team?
Multiply the monthly plan by 12, add extra users and add-ons, and note the currency. Pass: one yearly figure you can budget.
Key takeaways
- Arka Inventory is the best inventory planning software for Indian manufacturers and distributors who want purchase planning tied to orders, warehouses and costs.
- Three of the eight alternatives (Fishbowl, Unleashed, Cin7 Core) put forecasting behind a higher plan or a paid add-on.
- Zoho Inventory is the option with published rupee prices, from ₹999 a month on yearly billing as of October 2026.
- Run six tests on your own data before paying: plan fit, committed orders, lead times, minimum order quantities, stock accuracy and total yearly cost.
How do you choose inventory planning software: reorder rules or forecasting?
If stockouts come from long supplier lead times and from orders you have already accepted, you need reorder rules that count open orders and incoming stock. If demand swings by season across many products, you need statistical forecasting.
Two terms matter here. A reorder point is the stock level at which you place a new order; our reorder point formula and safety stock calculation show how to set it. Lead time is the number of days between placing a purchase order and receiving the goods.
For available stock, see Salesforce inventory management.
A new product has no sales history to forecast from. Plan it from orders and supplier lead times until it has a season behind it.

Where does forecasting start on the price ladder?
As of October 2026, three of the eight alternatives put statistical demand forecasting behind a higher plan or a paid add-on: Fishbowl, Unleashed and Cin7 Core. Each price below is the vendor's list price.
- Fishbowl: Essentials at $229 a month has reorder points; demand forecasting is an add-on on Growth ($429 a month) and included on Scale ($729 a month). $729 × 12 = $8,748 a year, about 3.2 times Essentials ($229 × 12 = $2,748).
- Unleashed: forecasting comes through the Advanced Inventory Manager add-on at $149 a month, included free on Pro, which costs $8,019 on annual billing.
- Cin7 Core: Pro is $599 a month, so $599 × 12 = $7,188 a year, before the separately priced forecasting add-on.
These are our calculations from list prices, not quotes. Three of the eight tools charge extra for forecasting, so check the tier before you buy it.
